About the Opportunity:

The Department of Art + Design at Northeastern University seeks an Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor of Photography beginning Fall 2022. We are looking for a versatile candidate who will enjoy working with a diverse faculty and student body, and who will enthusiastically contribute to our interdisciplinary Media Arts program.

The teaching load is 3 classes per semester with the possibility of summer classes for extra compensation.

The candidate will be responsible for 6 courses (3+3) annually that include introductory as well as advanced classes in photography. Introductory courses are structured around technical understanding of photographic equipment and evolving technology, the development of conceptual skills, and an awareness of photographic history and contemporary trends. Candidates are expected to be proficient in advanced digital printing, post-production, and a variety of approaches to lighting. Higher-level classes focus on more advanced students developing a formal and conceptual framework for longer term projects and portfolios.

An MFA or terminal degree in Photography and successful teaching experience are required. The candidate should have a commitment to excellence in teaching and an enthusiasm for evolving digital, interdisciplinary technologies and innovative contemporary practice. In addition, they should be active in the field with a significant record of professional achievement, both in teaching as well as in their professional photographic work. In addition to teaching, the applicant will develop photography classes offered in the Art + Design Department, participate in curriculum development and contribute to building a robust photography program.
