About the Opportunity:

The laboratory of Neglected Disease Drug Discovery at Northeastern University is acknowledged as a world-leader in drug discovery for neglected diseases.  The lab collaborates with industry, public-private partnerships, and academic groups to deliver better treatments to patients faster.  We do this by employing an industrialized approach to our medicinal chemistry optimization process. The successful candidate will have unparalleled opportunity to collaborate with scientists globally to achieve the goals of their projects.      


The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to contribute to the management of the daily operation of a research laboratory.  They will be team-oriented in their research and will have demonstrable expertise and experience in medicinal chemistry, organic synthesis, and informatics.  This position will be primarily lab-based and will involve the synthesis of novel small molecules.  The successful candidate will also have the ability to independently lead existing projects, driving the medicinal chemistry campaign and decision-making process. 


The candidate should have a Ph.D. plus 2-3 years of research post degree, or MSc plus 4-6 years research experience, with a demonstrated ability to contribute to the management of the daily operations of a research laboratory.  Have a team-oriented approach to performing research with expertise in medicinal chemistry, organic synthesis and informatics.  A demonstrated ability to lead existing projects and drive the medicinal chemistry optimization.

Preferred Qualifications:

The candidate should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in synthetic organic chemistry or a related field; strong technical expertise and demonstrated independence in modern synthetic methodologies and techniques; extensive experience in synthesis, purification, and characterization of organic molecules using modern chromatographic and analytical techniques; solid knowledge of computers and experience with databases; strong inclination of equipment operation and maintenance with a proven track record; excellent communication, organization and time management skills; previous supervisory experience.

The position will be available starting immediately, and the appointment will be for one year, renewable for an additional 1-2 years, depending on continuation of funding. 

Anticipated start date is by January 3, 2022.
