About the Opportunity:

The Bouvé College of Health Sciences is seeking anAssociate Director of Research Development to join their team!

Please note: The primary work location for this position is the Boston MA Northeastern University Campus Location. This interview process will be conducted remotely- including virtual interviews, remote onboarding and remote work. This position will operate under a hybrid model, which requires 3 days on campus and 2 days remote.

 

Responsibilities:

Northeastern University is an R-1 institution and is on a trajectory of rapid growth in research, having nearly tripling its funding in the past decade to $190M. Research at the Bouve College of Health Sciences is a critical part of this effort. The Research Development position will be a new role and a key member of the research development team in the Bouve College of Health Sciences. The Associate Director of Research Development will report to the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation and work closely with the Dean’s and Provost office, as well as faculty, staff, graduate students, directors of university centers/institutes and other leadership teams. The individual will support the overall college research program, select large-scale research initiatives, and advance the reputation, impact and external profile of Bouve research nationally and internationally, and grow the research enterprise at the college. This will be accomplished through targeted activities to build long-term capacity and provide strategic and tactical support across the college and in partnership with other units at Northeastern.

The individual will be an integral member of the team, helping researchers to: (1) identify and analyze funding opportunities and connect with funders, (2) ideate, develop and edit proposals to funders, and (3) facilitate interaction with administrative structures within institution, as well as managing various internal projects.

The position requires extensive interaction with many internal/external stakeholders. Principally this will include Northeastern faculty and other staff, but also includes external groups (outside faculty, industry/government collaborators and funders, etc). The job provides a unique challenge in that the multiple constituencies have simultaneously different and overlapping needs which must be anticipated and accommodated. In addition to outstanding communication, writing and editing skills, this job requires superior organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to effectively prioritize, integrate and balance the various ongoing efforts under strict deadlines.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree required (preferably in a health / technology related field) with 8+ years of research development experience in higher education.
• Experience with NIH and NSF grant mechanisms and grant applications is required (additional experience with other public and private agencies preferable).
• Strong ability to synthize and communicate information and data in a cohesive and succinct manner.
• Outstanding writing and editing skills, particularly of technical and health-related documents.
• Superior organizational capabilities and ability to work independently with strong self-initiative.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
• Must be flexible, work well in a team and in a fast paced environment. Strong work ethic.
