Responsibilities:

The Lead Staff Interpreter will provide ASL-English interpreting services at Northeastern University in support of our ASL and Interpreting Education Program goals and the university’s mission to build a diverse and inclusive community.

Interpreting will include but is not limited to university classes, administrative meetings, trainings, guest lectures, campus tours, university wide events, etc. The lead staff interpreter will be housed in the ASL and Interpreting Education Program office, providing ASL-English interpretation with Deaf faculty members and students throughout the semester, for parents/students visiting classes, for on-campus events (e.g., orientation program, IT trainings, student club/residence hall panels and presentations), and work in coordination with the university Disability Resource Center’s (DRC) additional interpreting requests for visitors, faculty, and students. The Lead Staff Interpreter will teach or co-teach a 1 or 2 credit interpreting course as needed.

When not providing direct interpreting services, the Lead Staff Interpreter will coordinate major events requiring interpreting services, prepare for assignments, and work on projects that are of benefit to the program, the community, and the profession.



 

 

Qualifications:


• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in interpreting or related field
• RID or NAD certification
• Advanced cultural knowledge of the Deaf community and its resources.
• Ability and experience teaching interpreting and/or mentoring novice interpreters                     •Must be a member in good standing with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
• Knowledge and application of the NAD/RID Code of Professional Conduct to ethical decision making and the interpreting process
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
• Excellent organizational skills
• Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite and other administrative tools


Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of five years interpreting experience preferred
