About Northeastern:

Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern’s comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:

Northeastern University's Roux Institute is designed as an engine of innovation, talent-building, and economic growth for Portland, Maine, and northern New England. Partnerships set our model of graduate education and research apart. With leading companies and nonprofit organizations at the table from day one, we are creating programs that are preparing the workforce to stay agile and thrive in a competitive landscape powered by artificial intelligence. We are nurturing an environment for high-impact research and innovation in Experiential AI, computer and data science, digital engineering, the advanced life sciences and medicine, and other tech fields. And we are helping entrepreneurs launch businesses focused on and powered by technology. We envision an innovation corridor that in the coming years will stretch from Boston to Portland and beyond.

The Roux Institute marketing team seeks an experienced, versatile, creative Copywriter to concept and create sharp, sophisticated marketing content across a variety of platforms. This position will be part of a team of brand storytellers, working closely with the design team and marketing strategists to develop campaign concepts, digital assets, campaign emails, website copy, short profiles, and copy to support events.

This position is based at the Roux Institute in Portland, Maine. But you’ll be part of a larger team of writers and content strategists reporting to the Managing Editor on the content team within Northeastern University’s central Marketing department in the Office of External Affairs in Boston. This reporting structure will allow you to collaborate and grow within your discipline and to become immersed in the Northeastern brand, while remaining plugged into the activities and content needs of the Roux Institute. Occasional travel to Boston may be required.

Bachelor’s degree and/or a master’s degree, in English, journalism, creative writing, poetry, public relations, or a related field. 3-5 years of experience writing and editing for a large organization or for an advertising/marketing agency. Ideal candidate must be able to understand the brand and translate that into compelling copy that speaks to our audiences across their journey and drives them into action, whether that be requesting more information about graduate programs, engaging in a partnership exploration, or getting involved with our entrepreneurship initiatives.

This position is a fit for someone who loves words and design and thrives thinking creatively about how to bring an idea to life. Candidate must be comfortable writing across channels—especially digital—and adapting to a range of tones and styles. The role requires attention to detail, an ability to thrive in a fast-moving start-up environment, and a deep curiosity about a range of subjects and the writing craft itself.

Excellent people skills and a global-first, inclusive mindset is a must. Because Northeastern is a university with locations worldwide you’ll need to be culturally aware, both in professional interactions and in the work you produce.

The ideal candidate is someone who:
• Is a fast, clean writer and has a precise command of language
• Has the ability to toggle a variety of projects, a knack for cutting through complicated topics and jargon
• Is both self-motivated and innately collaborative
• Enjoys working with a variety of teams

• Communicates clearly with colleagues and absorbs feedback eagerly
• Learns the nuances of the Northeastern and Roux brands – and how they work together – quickly
• Understanding of social media, including platform-specific nuances and best practices for social media advertising
• Is able to find valuable points of connection and alignment
• Is flexible about shifting priorities and is entrepreneurial and resilient when faced with ambiguity
• Nimbly adapts to new systems, knowing when it’s necessary to ask for help and when it’s appropriate to propose better ways of doing things
• Embraces the cues provided by performance metrics, but still trusts gut instinct
• Decisive
