The Roux Institute is driving economic development in the state of Maine through Research, Learning, Entrepreneurship, and Partnerships. The entrepreneurship team is focused on developing the entrepreneurial mindset in all the communities we support as well as attracting and supporting high growth startups and founders to Maine.

The Roux Institute’s Founder Residency is part of our Venture Creation & Acceleration programs designed to engage with founders at the earliest stages of their entrepreneurial journey, whether they come from academia or industry, and to lower the barriers of entry for underrepresented and first-time entrepreneurs. Reporting to the Associate Director of Entrepreneurship, the Founder Residency Program Manager will lead this key program in our portfolio and integrate into many other operations of the team.


The Founder Residency Program Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day logistics and operations of the program. They will be responsible for identifying and recruiting potential Founder Residency cohort members, as well as working with the screening committee to vet and select potential portfolio founders. They will own all programming and events for the program. They will work with partners across the Roux Institute and Northeastern University to recruit, attract, cultivate, and engage mentors and experts to assist portfolio companies. They will also work with the Roux Institute’s Research Alliance Directors to facilitate joint research opportunities between faculty and portfolio companies. They will work with the Associate Director and Director of Entrepreneurship to cultivate follow-on funding opportunities for graduates of the program. Over the coming years, they will work to scale the program into sector-specific verticals as the Roux Institute continues to lead the way positioning Maine as the best place to start a life science or technology start-up.

This role is all about creating a program that lifts founders up and helps them succeed at achieving their wildly ambitious, world-altering goals that will reshape how we live, work, and play. They will work with a Portfolio Support Associate to provide “concierge” service to these Founders as they navigate the complex world of early-stage startups and funding. From accessing lab space to attracting top talent to connecting them with experts in their industries, we aim to be an extension of our portfolio founders’ teams. The companies’ success is our success.

The right candidate must have a strong sense of ownership, drive, and scrappiness, as well as the ability to leverage and motivate the team. It is strongly preferred that candidates have a background in the startup ecosystem either as a founder, early employee, investor, or accelerator/incubator operator. Strong preference for candidates with experience working with academic spinouts or underrepresented founders.


• A minimum of 5+ years of experience working in the start-up or social impact sector
• 2+ years of relevant work experience and knowledge in the technology industry
• 1-2 years program or project management experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of the startup ecosystem, including an understanding of startup needs
• Knowledge of emerging technologies and current trends in the start-up ecosystem
• An insatiable hunger to help early-stage founders succeed
• Ability to quickly find solutions to problems as they come up and juggle multiple projects at once.
• Strong network connection skills. Connector – people gravitate towards you and want to be a part of whatever you’re a part of
• Works well under pressure and isn’t scared by uncertainty
• Excellent at working independently, but also leading a team
• Proven record of operating effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Experience in planning and managing programs and events
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Experience working with first-time and underrepresented founders strongly preferred
• Experience working for an accelerator/incubator program preferred
• Experience working with academic spin-outs and IP-based ventures preferred
