About the Opportunity:

The Northeastern University College of Professional Studies and the Roux Institute invite applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, open-rank faculty position to support the Master of Science in Project Management degree program. The Master of Science in Project Management program is one of the largest Project Management programs in North America and is a GAC® (Global Accreditation Center) accredited by the Project Management Institute, Inc. In addition to Portland, ME, classes are offered in an online, NU Flex, and/or hybrid format at the University’s Main Campus in Boston and Regional Campuses in Charlotte, NC; Seattle, WA; Silicon Valley, CA; Toronto; and Portland, ME.

 

Responsibilities:

This full-time faculty member is expected to bring her/his intellectual and creative capacity to bear in advancement of the program, seeking to serve students by participating in a range of teaching and non-teaching activities that support the advancement of the program. S/he will have a variable workload consisting of a combination of teaching and service in support of our teaching mission; teaching assignments will be in support of project management-focused programming at the Roux Institute, both in terms of standard degree and certificate programs as well as in curated course content in support of our partner organizations. Service is likely to include working with student advising, administrative and programmatic projects. The workload balance will be managed as demands dictate by the Director of Professional Programs at the Roux Institute (the Director), working with the CPS Project Management Faculty Lead.

 

Teaching & Curricular Oversight (65% of time)

  • Course instruction will focus on core courses delivered at the Roux Institute, such as Project Management Practices, Risk Management, Scope Management, Quality Management, and Project Scheduling and Budgeting as well as concentrations in Agile Project Management, Construction Management, Leading and Managing Technical Projects, and Business Analysis.
  • In conjunction with the Faculty Lead and Director, developing and implementing course learning outcomes, curriculum maps, resource guides, textbooks, syllabi templates, and updated course materials; includes region specific coursework as desired.
  • Overseeing the instruction of specific courses within the curriculum. Responsibilities include supporting the Faculty Lead and Director in the selection of instructors, advising on syllabi, and evaluating instructor performance.
  • Identifying and providing recommendations to keep curriculum relevant and industry leading.
  • Working with the Faculty Lead and Director to ensure regional programs meet license/accreditation requirements and participate in comprehensive regional evaluations and periodic reviews.
  • In collaboration with the Faculty Lead and Director, creating modularity guidelines and recommendations for program content integration across the programs and regional campuses.
  • Working with the Roux Faculty Director and Roux team to create and supporting an optimal learning environment specifically for the Maine-based Roux student population.

 

Teaching and actual course load may vary with other responsibilities, which include, but are not limited to:

Program, Region, and College Support (10% of time)

  • Collaborating with the Director and Faculty Lead to define processes and best practices for leveraging professional networks within the region to create deeper connections between stakeholders.
  • Working with the Roux Faculty Director and Roux team to create and supporting local events, both inside and outside the Roux, to increase student connections to regional campus, on-ground student development, and expanding impact of curricular content within the market.
  • Coordinating with the Faculty Lead and Director in the creation and management of industry advisory boards as may be required.
  • Representing the program in regional orientations, open houses, Maine events, and tracking student progress.
  • In collaboration with the Faculty Lead, Director, and the wider Roux team, identify and reach out to possible Co-op and experiential learning sponsors to establish relationships and define engagement.
  • Participating in Roux-specific and CPS-wide program and faculty committee meetings as applicable.
  • Serving on committees that support the mission of the program and the vision of the College and wider University.

 

Faculty & Student Support (25% of time)

  • In coordination with the Faculty Lead and Director, assess and enhance instructional quality of courses by offering follow-up coaching to part time faculty across the Northeastern network for courses assigned to him/her.
  • Collaborating with the Faculty Lead and Director to recruit and vet qualified candidates for part time faculty positions, with a specific focus on building a team of part-time faculty on-ground in Maine.
  • Assisting the program in the onboarding of new part time faculty across the Northeastern network for courses assigned to him/her and maintaining ongoing communications and mentorship to gauge engagement within the program.
  • Providing opportunities for part time faculty to engage with program and college activities; seek their professional and curricular feedback.

 

Travel

  • In addition to supporting the Portland campus, occasional travel may be required to the University’s Campuses in [Boston, Seattle, Charlotte, Toronto, and/or Silicon Valley].
    • Examples of required travel include [annual CPS Graduation, Faculty Conference, etc.]
  • The potential for transnational work is also possible.

 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong teaching abilities and a dedication to continued improvement as an educator. Experience teaching at the master’s degree level, teaching, and developing on ground and online courses, and proven success in working with international students are desired attributes.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and characteristics:


• A terminal degree from an accredited institution either in project management or a related field by appointment start date.

• An active Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential awarded through the Project Management Institute.
• 10+ years of professional experience at the project manager level.
• Demonstrated understanding of the broader project management community and the range of project management maturity levels of organizations.
• Experience teaching at the master’s level in both on ground and online environments.
• Demonstrate a dedication to continued improvement as an educator and a desire to align with the scholar-practitioner model.

• It is highly desirable that candidates have a track record of presenting to Project Management Chapters, Interest Groups, and other Industry groups on project management topics.

Additional Information:

This is a matrixed-reporting position, to the Faculty Lead of the Master of Science in Project Management program in the College of Professional Studies and to the Director of Professional Programs at the Roux Institute. This is a non-tenure track, renewable position with contract length associated with rank. This position requires a flexible work schedule that includes being present on the Portland, ME campus, required evening hours and the possibility of weekend hours. Travel to the University’s other Regional Campuses may be required.
