About the Opportunity:

The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) Department at Northeastern University is seeking outstanding individuals to fill a non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor position in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in the area of Engineering Mechanics and Design.

 

Responsibilities:

The main responsibility of the Assistant Teaching Professor position is high quality student-centered teaching, including course preparation, delivery, and assessment. The annual teaching responsibility is six courses. The Assistant Teaching Professor is also given the opportunity to participate in department, university, and professional service activities as well as be engaged in a modest level of research activities, for his or her own professional development.

Course assignments may be at both the undergraduate and graduate levels within the department with primary emphasis on dynamics, vibrations, mechanical engineering design, finite elements, and statics.

While not a requirement, the Assistant Teaching Professor may choose to initiate and undertake research and service activities, including, but not limited to advising undergraduate and graduate students, student recruiting, e-learning, educational research, publications, and presentations. Such activities are encouraged and supported by the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.

 

Qualifications:

PhD required in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field. Excellent written and oral communication skills and evidence of teaching effectiveness is expected.


Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with latest electronic teaching tools and experiential e-learning. Ability to integrate computation and programming tools into course curriculum is desirable.
