The mission of the Campus Planning and Real Estate department is to connect people, space, and resources to prepare the university to thrive in the future.

Northeastern Campus Planning and Real Estate is seeking an Associate Vice President to assist the VP and Chief of Campus Planning and Real Estate in the development of physical campus growth strategies for the Boston campus, suburban MA campuses and the growing global network of campuses.


The Associate Vice President (AVP) will supervise and direct a team of talented campus planners to propose innovative solutions to space challenges and capital projects which will position Northeastern for continued growth and success as a research institution. The AVP will oversee the public entitlement strategy for new developments including taking a lead role in pursuing regulatory approvals with the City of Boston, other communities in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts , as well as advise on space regulatory approvals in Northeastern’s global network of campuses. Currently, Northeastern has established campuses in London, UK, Seattle, WA, San Francisco Bay Area, CA, Charlotte, NC, and Toronto and Vancouver, Canada with plans for continued market expansion.
The AVP works with a diverse group of university stakeholders to explore their vision for the physical campus and help bring it to realization. The AVP guides the team to collect and analyze data to create multiple scenarios to meet the University’s near and long term space needs. The team is responsible for identifying, articulating, and communicating key tradeoffs and decision points for university leadership.
The AVP will lead planning studies, partner with Facilities project managers to assess capital project requests, and will direct and manage consultant teams. The AVP will work in partnership with the department’s real estate team to offer strategic real estate planning advice. The AVP will develop effective communication materials that distill complex ideas into concise options and tradeoffs and collect and analyze data to inform campus planning initiatives. As the leader of the Campus Planning team, the AVP places high value on customer service, collaborating with clients and connecting them to the broader planning vision.


Master’s degree in Planning, Architecture, Real Estate, or a related field. A minimum of ten years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
required. Proven leadership experience with a collaborative approach and an ability to lead diverse teams to deliver high quality results in a fast paced environment. Ability to employ data and thoughtful analysis, create compelling communication materials, think strategically about options and associated costs and benefits, and understand the institutional framework. Experience navigating development regulatory processes including City of Boston Article 80 / Institutional Master Plan approvals, familiarity with state regulatory bodies including MEPA, MAAB, and Mass Historic. Ability to assess the adaptability of space and understand order of magnitude cost parameters for renovation of existing structures. Individual should be able to set priorities and meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work effectively with faculty, vendors, staff and public officials at all levels to achieve outcomes.
