About the Opportunity:

Under the direction of the Associate Vice-President for Design & Construction, the Director of Capital Finance drives decision-making and prioritization for the capital construction program by analyzing finance data, identifying trends and developing best practices. Leads and evolves capital construction fiscal process improvements and automation efficiencies around planning and reporting to key stakeholders. Partners with cross-functional stakeholders to scope, establish, and develop a metrics program with a focus on driving efficiencies in capital construction. Conveys financial data-driven stories to technical and non-technical audiences around key business insights. Works with budget owners to improve fiscal understanding/accountability. Supports other fiscal staff with financial functions as necessary.

Provides experienced project and process management, bid analysis, forecasting and hind-sighting analysis on completed projects. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by submitting and tracking project related expenditures against plant funds and other associated budgets to produce accurate project forecasts and reports. Delivers in strategic environments; resolving immediate concerns and planning for the future.

Responsibilities:

Capital Finance

Manage capital construction project budgets by utilizing the E-Builder, Banner, and Cognos to track budgets, create reports, and analyze expenditures and projections for senior management on complex capital construction fiscal matters and budgetary concerns. Analyze and forecast monthly projections and actual expenses.  Conduct monthly and quarterly meetings with Design & Construction staff to track open POs, review actual expenditures, and make recommendations; analyze projected and actual expenditures to find opportunities to save costs; work with senior Design & Construction management to closely monitor expenditures. Continually monitors adherence to approved budgets.  Works closely with Facilities management to identify and analyze various financial and budgetary issues, evaluates budget requests, strategic and capital financial planning efforts.  Provide support to the VP of Facilities Management in developing presentation materials, reports, and financial analysis for various meetings, including meetings with the university senior leadership and other internal and external committees and entities.  Assist Director of Fiscal Operations in consultation, education and training to build financial compliance and awareness within the Design & Construction department.

 

Reporting

Provide monthly reports, analysis, and projections to senior Facilities management on complex capital finance matters and budgetary considerations. Analyze data and prepare accurate and concise reports identifying anomalies in the data.  Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting.  Review of construction project related requisitions and vendor invoices.  Assist Project Managements in the monthly project forecast including validation of the projected fee and percent complete forecast. Monitoring the budget position of projects and completion of a monthly budget position analysis.  Preparation of the project budget forecasts.

 

 

Qualifications:

A Bachelors degree in business-related or quantitative field (Finance, Economic, or similar discipline), as well as 6-10 years of employment experience in a business strategy or construction cost management environment. Must have strong quantitative analysis/critical thinking skills and the aptitude to effectively manage multiple projects, prioritizing deliverables when necessary. Demonstrated experience in building dynamic financial models. Exceptional organization, multi-stage project management and administrative skills are a must. Must have the ability to inspire confidence and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization. Ability to communicate in the written and spoken word, reporting results across diverse groups with tact and diplomacy.
