About the Opportunity:


The Assistant Director of DRC Operations is responsible for the oversight of note-taking services, exam coordination and general front desk operations, and documentation intake processes. The position will also serve as a disability specialist for students with a variety of disabilities, determining reasonable accommodations as a member of the documentation review committee, holding student intake meetings, offering individual meetings to support students’ self-determination and self-advocacy skills.

Responsibilities:

Oversight of note-taking services includes supervision of the Note-taking Coordinator and monthly review of note-taking budget and resources, as well as providing assistance with the training and hiring of student note-takers and note-taking assistants. The Assistant Director is also responsible for oversight of exam coordination and general front desk operations. Leadership of exam coordination involves reviewing and implementing all policy and procedures related to the DRC’s exam process. The Assistant Director will engage in faculty education to ensure students’ exam accommodations are implemented appropriately. The Assistant Director is responsible for supervision of the Academic Assistant, aiding the Academic Assistant with monitoring DRC shared email account and hiring and training student workers who will serve as exam proctors in the office. The Assistant Director will also supervise the Service Coordinator, assisting with receiving, processing and cataloging documentation for students seeking DRC services.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in rehabilitation, special education, counseling, social work, higher education, or related field
  • Five years professional experience in field, preferably higher education
  • Education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
    • Knowledge of models of disability and inclusive educational design and their application in higher education
    • Knowledge of the application of federal and state laws that provide for an accessible higher education experience 
    • Organizational skills
    • Strong written and interpersonal skills
    • Skill at developing and delivering presentations and workshops


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Website development, including knowledge of web accessibility challenges
  • Curriculum design and development
  • Experience in a disability services office in higher education
