About the Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director of Partnerships, the person in this role works as part of a growing, global team to find and develop industry partners and to help build multi-faceted corporate relationships that involve experiential learning opportunities for students (projects, internships, co-ops, full time placements, etc.), philanthropy, and corporate learning.

Specifically, the Business Development Manager is responsible for sourcing, building, and cultivating a portfolio of industry relationships to support the campuses and students in the San Francisco and San Jose campuses. Our mission is to increase the visibility of Northeastern University and our students in the San Francisco Bay area and build creative and innovative ways to engage partners in service of our students. To fulfill these responsibilities, this role operates in a highly cross functional environment, collaborating with colleagues across teams and campuses at Northeastern to unlock more Northeastern-wide partnership opportunities.


Primary responsibilities are:

1. Develop and nurture portfolio of prospective and new/emerging partner accounts, deepening their knowledge of Northeastern and exploring opportunities for hiring students (whether as co-ops, interns, or full-time employees), supporting the school’s work philanthropically (via scholarships or other), programmatically (industry speakers, hackathons etc.) and scoping employee upskilling opportunities (i.e. corporate learning)

2. Conduct research on new prospects, identifying and implementing tactics for contacting leads, with the goal of creating new partnerships.

3. Manage a personal case load of active partners that engage with the university across opportunity areas, nurturing and expanding those relationships over time.

4. Build strong relationships with multiple teams and work cross functionally with career services, cooperative education, and experiential network (“XN”) colleagues to design and implement industry-focused events and engagement opportunities

5. Similarly, collaborate with B2B (corporate learning) team, identify, explore and design corporate learning opportunities.


• Bachelor’s Degree

• 3-5 years work experience in private sector

• Proven track record in business development or sales and/or strategic relationship management

• Strong understanding of the tech industry and workforce development trends

• Mission driven, fueled by desire to make education accessible and inclusive

• Creative thinker, action-oriented, versatile, ability to adapt in dynamic environment and takes initiative

• Ability to operate in a “startup within a larger enterprise environment”

• Previous experience in higher education is valuable, but not required.
